Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated and laid foundation stones of over 1.3 lakh houses worth Rs 2,993 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Gujarat. The beneficiaries are from all 182 assembly constituencies in the state.
Addressing the event, PM Modi said, “In Ayodhya, Prabhu Ram got a house, and in villages, you all got houses. Today the families who have got their new houses, to all such families, many congratulations and good wishes from my side…”
Emphasising the target of making India a developed country by 2047, the centenary year of Independence, PM Modi said, “In 10 years, 25 crore people in the country have moved out of poverty. The government stayed with them every step of the way and they used the benefits of government schemes, utilised the money in the right way, and… beat poverty. It has affirmed my belief that these schemes can bring people out of poverty… Today’s time is a… time similar to what we saw during our Independence struggle… Every child of this country wants that in the coming 25 years, India should become a viksit rashtra (developed nation) and for this, everyone is making their contributions.”
“Today houses for the poor are getting made. Earlier, money given for homes for the poor was very little, and even then, middlemen would take cuts and loot them. Now they (beneficiaries) get it directly in their bank accounts…” he added.
